With all this happening without the catalyst on try running memtest on each dimm by itself in case one is bad. For temps try more then one like Core Temp in case of a software glicth and don't forget to look at the hardware monitor in the bios as well since those come right off the board's sensors there.

Why does no one else appear to have the same problem as myself....bah.

Ive read this thread and i have exactly the same problem with that dreaded ATi card in combo with Home Premium 64 bit. Did a reinstall and have a mimimun system but it seems to crash only with movies or flash movies in browsers.

My system is also a dual boot (seperate disk) with Ubuntu 64 bit and it doesnt crash as hard as with Vista. I notice a crash but it doesnt crash the whole system, only the application im working the movie or the browser crashes.

I have a top system but saved on the graphics card, i never had ATi before. That will teach me...lol

Well someone new to the Windows Forums I see. Don't forget to stop by and introduce yourself in the welcome center. http://windowsforums...php?showforum=9

People have been seeing problems with NVidia cards as well as ATI on the 64bit Windows both Vista and 7 beta. It seems to be whenever a new line of models are out the first updates as well as driver sets always seem to be buggy even in the 32bit Windows! Many are having problems with the 8800s from what I hear.

When people were having problems with the latest Catalyst 8.4 and manually installing the basic drivers I went ahead and installed the full catalyst on the 32bit XP Home, Vista Home Premium, 7 beta, and the 64bit 7 beta without one problem being seen on the Radeon HD 2600XT here. The early 7.9 that also came on the software cd however when the 2xxx series was new saw all the headaches there!

Guess like users still experience this error with vista. Just a bump to the thread, as this is the thread with the most views ever on WF.

One thing I never saw when running Vista was any problems installing the service packs. SP1 followed by the SP2 beta in late 2008 both went on without a glitch. By the time SP2 was out as you know I was already testing Windows 7 and was running both of the RCs.

Later on of course you saw the guide made up on installing Vista on a virtual machine being the new Windows Virtual PC that replaced the 2007 version and custom installed Vista on a VHD(Virtual Hard Disk) as well as both service packs. http://windowsforums...-vista-virtual/
